The Margaret River region in south west Western Australia is dotted with limestone caves.
The 300 m walk down into Calgardup Cave reveals curtain formations, crystals, stalactites and stalagmites. Reflections of stalactites in the seasonal lake are beautiful, hinting that the water is much deeper than just a few centimetres.
The cave is open everyday except 25 – 26 December. Entry fees apply and a helmet and torch are provided for the self-guided walks. The walking path in the cave is formed and has handrails and rest stops, but be aware that there are there are about 50 stairs.
There are also some other caves to explore in the region, including Mammoth Cave, Jewel Cave, Lake Cave and Ngilgi Cave.
