This year, Tasmania had over 30 Brain Break morning teas registered across the state. We offered a $100 ABC Shop voucher to the morning tea that best exhibited what a Brain Break hopes to achieve: fun science in the workplace, at home or at school.
We encouraged everyone to put their culinary skills to the test and we were not disappointed! However, there can be only one winner, chosen by hree judges from the Tasmanian National Science Week Coordinating Committee.
In first place are Cradle Coast Natural Resource Management who put together a spectacular event including a host, menu and iTunes playlist!
The runner-up, PEO Curriculum Services, will receive a double pass to see a movie at the gorgeous, historic State Cinema. PEO created mice cupcakes and penguin hors d’oeuvres for their Brain Break.
Honourable mentions
LINC Cygnet with roller coasters, experiments and *gasp* hot drinks in the library!
Devonport High with dry-ice ice-cream!
Scotch Oakburn who grew their own veggies, turned it into a soup and made bread to go with it. Wow!
Calvin School created a rat cake of a different kind with this dissection.
And CSRO made a battery cake (of course)!
Well done to all who entered. Brain Break will be back in 2014 and is open to any group who would like to register!
