How long am I gonna live? People in Australia are living longer and longer each year, but the estimate for 2020-2022 actually showed a dip of 0.1 years for both men and women. COVID-19 ended up being the third biggest killer, right after heart disease and dementia. If we don’t get a better grip on what diseases are doing and what causes them, we might start seeing life expectancy go down instead of up. We'll chat about how stats are helping biologists get a grip on what’s happening at the molecular level when it comes to diseases or infections, which is basically what bioinformatics is all about. By looking at these big data sets made from sequencing and measuring genetic info, we can get a better idea of how to create new treatments, ease symptoms, or even fix some of the damage. We'll chat about issues like obesity, injuries, and development.
