The Tasmanian National Science Week Coordinating Committee and Inspiring Australia (Tasmania) awarded 12 grants to support individuals and organisations who will deliver a public science, technology, engineering, maths or medicine themed activity as part of National Science Week in 2023.
Grants were available to support a:
- program of STEM events/activities delivered outside of the Greater Hobart area;
- public STEM engagement event/activity; or
- public STEM engagement activity delivered at any established community event.

Engaging with STEM on the West Coast
Sustainability Learning Centre
Sustainability Learning Centre will provide a STEM and citizen science workshop in Smithton, Strahan and Queenstown. Activities include iNaturalist and Frog ID citizen science workshop, Rube Goldberg challenge, plastic ocean provocation, waste reduction learning, and home energy audit information.
Science Week at QVMAG
Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery
Join the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery to celebrate all things National Science Week in 2023. Enjoy science talks on subjects such as 3D technology in art, medical innovation, AI and more. There will be robotics workshops, and interactive activities in the Australia in Space exhibition as well as other STEM learning activities for all ages.
Sound in Space

Sound in Space will present practical workshops on turning science ideas into music compositions with composers and scientists. The science topics include string theory, invasive and endemic species of Cataract Gorge, and cloud formations.

Join Kingston Library for a coding and robotics program for ages 3-12 and families. The program will encourage curiosity, problem solving and working together to solve carious STEM challenges. It will also give all participants the opportunity to build confidence and knowledge in early basic coding and programming.

The Midlands Biodiversity Field Day
Nipaluna Nursery
The Aboriginal Story will showcase Aboriginal land management in the Midlands including use of fire and story telling, to the community, including the local Aboriginal community as well as land-carers, students and families. The Midlands Biodiversity Hot Spot is one of 15 hot spots in Australia and the only one in Tasmania, declared because of the high number of threatened and endangered species.
